Some many months back, I began writing about the possible myth surrounding the need to wash one’s face in my blog post, But Mom Told Me So… Fom skin line/care representatives, to the women on television, to skincare articles and even to the experts – dermatologists, I always heard the same message being blasted: good skin care starts with the right cleanser, used twice daily. I don’t know who started this rumor, but it caught on and we all have accepted this as a truth. Not so, I say, as do many of the people I consider walking proof that this is just a gimmick to sell more products. Everyone has a different skin type, and therefore, what holds true for one person will not necessarily work for another. This is why I prefer to share with you my stories – but at the same time – I strongly suggest you discover what the best solution is for your skin type and needs. Read more…
Sometimes in life you have the pure luck of stumbling across something so great that you either want to tell everyone or keep it your little secret. As it turns out, it’s your lucky day, because I happened to discover something pretty awesome and I decided to let you in on my new must-have.
The summer months in muggy DC had begun to take a toll on my hair. Frequent showers (all one has to do is stand outside and in minutes the sweat beads swell at your every pore), matched with frequent blow drying began to sabotage any potential for good hair days. On top of that, my long hair would sweep my neck and back when I went on long, sweaty runs; the salt collecting on the ends of my hair began to really dry it out. And after trying SO HARD to grow my hair out, I was now contemplating hacking a chunk off in order to have healthy looking hair again! That was until something happened three weeks ago. Read more…

Dry winter air can be brutal on a woman’s skin. Think of it as a multi-layer cake covered by a single sheet of food wrap to keep it fresh. When something threatens that protective covering, your skin, like a cake, can become dry and stale. Read more…
It is no secret that in the world of beauty, anti-aging skin care products are cash cows for cosmetic companies. Often, these companies rake in the dough by selling their products with the aid of catchy marketing and a plethora of hyperbole, rather than real results. Companies are competing to find that new “breakthrough” ingredient that gets the beauty industry buzzing. In 2009, plant stem cells began generating tons of interest, taking the industry by storm.
Stem cells are able to differentiate into any type of cell, which means treatments developed with stem cell technology have the potential to repair extensive tissue damage. However, human and animal stem cell research and usage is highly controversial and is often subject to government regulation – in the US, it’s banned from commercial use. As a result, perfectly legal plant stem cell technology became the attractive alternative for cosmetic use.
