They say that eyes are the windows to the soul. Unfortunately, they are one of the first things to show signs of aging. The last thing you want to do is tug at and rub the delicate skin around the eyes when you’re removing your eye makeup. And as someone who loves her waterproof mascara, I have yet to find a great eye makeup remover (including from a cleanser) on the market. I either end up with traces of makeup still remaining on my eyes and lashes, or I have to aggressively rub at them to get everything off. The former ends up destroying your lashes, while the latter speeds up the aging process (around the eyes). That’s why nothing has replaced my favorite trick to removing stubborn eye makeup.
If you follow my blog, you know very well that I’m a huge proponent of using oil for skin care because of its many skin benefits. On top of the many reasons to have oil in your skin care arsenal is that it’s a superb eye makeup remover, bar none! All you need to do is gently massage a couple of drops of oil over your entire eye, then just as gently wipe everything off with a cotton pad/disk. It removes everything!
Just a few things to keep in mind, my favorite oils to use are sweet almond oil, avocado oil, or argan oil. They will not irritate your eyes and these oils remove very easily. I am not a fan of using olive oil because it does sting your eyes. And while big names like Tyra have boasted using Vaseline, products this heavy will make it hard for you to open your eyes in the morning. Try oil as your eye makeup remover and let that soul keep shining through those beautiful peepers!
